TNT Diesel Depot 4.0kw Island system

4.0kw ISLAND SYSTEM

Location: Henley on Klip. Midvaal

System hardware.

  • 1 x 4.0kw Mercer Inverter.
  • 20 x 100ah Vision AGM. Solar batteries
  • 4 x 260w Canadian Solar panels.

System layout.

  • The inverters are connected to offices, pumps and all security systems.Solar panels supply power to the depot via the inverters.
  • Batteries are used for storage with 5 days autonomy.
  • There is no power from the grid and they are completely self-sufficient.

Operation.

  • The client  pumps  8000 litres diesel a day using  2 x normal pumps and one high volume pump.
  • Three Computers’with printersand speed point machines are connected.
  • A kettle is used for tea and coffee.
  • All lights are connected.

Three Rivers Grid Interactive System

8.0kw GRID INTERACTIVE SYSTEM

Location: Three Rivers Vereeniging

System hardware.

  • 2 x 4.0kw Mercer Inverter.
  • 32 x 100ah Vision AGM. Solar batteries
  • 20 x 260w Canadian Solar panels.

System layout.

  • The inverters are connected to main distribution board supplying all circuits.
  • Solar panels supply power to the house via the inverters and charge batteries.
  • Batteries are used for storage with 5 days autonomy.
  •  No power is used from the grid and they are completely self-sufficient.
  • Should they need back-up power from the grid if there is an overload or batteries are to low the inverters will automatically change to grid supply until condition is rectified.

Operation.

  • Power is supplied to entire house with average usage at 750kwh per month.
  • A pay as you go meter was installed by the council prior to our installation.

The client has not used any power from the council since the Solar installation.

Inanda Sandton Johannesburg

7kw GRID INTERACTIVE SYSTEM

Location: InandaSandton

System hardware.

  •  7kw Schneider XW Inverters connected to 1-phase of 3 phase
  • 1 x MPPT 150/60 controllers
  • 8 x 100ah Solar battery banks.
  • 16 x 165w Solar frontier panels.
  • System layout.

The inverters are connected to supply grid and batteries. Solar panels supply power to the house via the inverters and keep the batteries in float charge at the same time. Limited power is used from the grid supply when solar is available. In times of power outages the connected phase will supply power to the house for 4 hours at 20% depth of discharge to the batteries. Connected loads for back- up power as chosen with our client were all lights, televisions, computers, garage door motors, electric gate, microwave oven, all fridges(4 fridges) with all security systems ie. Alarms, beams, and camera system with electric fencing.

Thin film solar was used due to shading and no trees were trimmed or cut. This system is modular and our client intends to add more solar panels at a later date. This will enable him to become grid independent.

This system is a good example of integration between grid, solar with back- up power and scope to become self-sufficient.

Mount Everest Drakensburg

25kw GRID TIE SYSTEM

Location: Mount Everest Drakensburg

System hardware.

1 x 25kw Schneider CL25000 Grid Tie Inverters connected to threephase

24 x 255w YingliSolar panels.

System layout.

The inverters are connected to supply grid. Solar panels supply power to the lodges via the inverters. No power or reduced power is used from the grid supply when solar is available.

This is the most affordable way to reduce an electrical bill and payback on a grid tie system is normally 3 to 4 years.

The Art Farm

12.5kw GRID TIE SYSTEM

Location: AlewynspoortRandvaal

System hardware.

  • 1 x 12.5kw ABB Grid Tie Inverters connected to threephase
  • 40 x 260w Canadian Solar panels.

System layout.

The inverters are connected to supply grid. Solar panels supply power to the house via the inverters.  Reduced power is used from the grid to supply loads when solar is available. Solar will supply power to loads as first priority.

  • 1 x 4.2kw ABB Grid Tie Inverters connected to single phase
  • 14 x 260w Canadian Solar panels.

System layout.

The inverters are connected to supply grid. Solar panels supply power to the house via the inverters. No power or reduced power is used from the grid supply when solar is available. Reduced power is used from the grid to supply loads when solar is available. Solar will supply power to loads as first priority.

This is the most affordable way to reduce an electrical bill and payback on a grid tie system is normally 3 to 4 years.

Waverly

72 kw GRID INTERACTIVE SYSTEM

Location: Waverley Johannesburg

System hardware.

  • 6 x 8.5kw Schneider XW Inverters connected to 3-phase
  • Automatic generator start.
  • 8 x MPPT 150/60 controllers
  • 2 x 2170ah Hoppecke battery banks.
  • 148 x 165w Solar frontier panels.

System layout.

The inverters are connected to supply grid and batteries. Solar panels supply power to the house via the inverters and keep the batteries in float charge at the same time. No power is used from the grid supply when solar is available. In times of grid supply outage the system runs off the batteries and solar and if the batteries reach a discharge state of 20% the automatic gen start will engage the generator, which will pass power through to connected loads and charge the batteries at the same time. When the batteries reach a state of float charge the generator will switch off.

Thin film solar was used due to shading and no trees were trimmed or cut.

This system is a good example of integration between grid, solar and generator.
